LAFAYETTE— Earlier this month, two local nonprofit housing development organizations received the news that they were selected for housing awards to help fund an additional 100 affordable housing units for seniors in the Lafayette area.

The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s Board of Directors and Federal Home Loan Banks announced that the Jeffersonian Senior Housing Development and Snowy Owl Commons project were recipients of the 2024A-C rental housing tax credit program award and Affordable Housing Project awards.

Both organizations are planning to build an additional 50 housing units at their respective sites.

“We were very excited to get the award because it’s a very competitive (award) and this was our third try to get it,” Marie Morse, with Homestead Counseling Services, said.

“We’re very happy to have it and we’ve received a lot of city support and county government support, and it’s going to help our affordable housing crisis. But it’s kind of a drop in the bucket compared to the amount we need for housing.”
