Indiana and Illinois ranked in the top 10 nationally for business climate, according to Site Selection Magazine.
Site Selection Magazine, a trade publication that serves corporate executives involved in expansion and relocation decisions, ranked the state of Texas No. 1 nationally for business climate. The Long Star State, which has the eighth largest economy in the world, narrowly defeated North Carolina by 1 point in the magazine's 14-metric index.
The rankings were based on surveys with site selectors and corporate real estate executives. The evaluations looked at factors like taxation, infrastructure, tech employment and startup ecosystems.
Georgia, Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Arizona and Colorado.
Illinois ranked seventh nationally, moving up two spots from its 9th place ranking in 2024. Its largest city, Chicago, regularly places No. 1 in Site Selection Magazine's annual ranking of corporate investment. Its ranking was bolstered by having 257 Inc. 5000 firms, the sixth most in the country. Chicago had 122 Inc. 5000 firms, second to only New York City.
It narrowly beat out Indiana in Site Selection's rankings with 478 points compared to Indiana's 473 points, which were tallied based on projects, tech growth, tax climate, CNBC rankings and other factors.
Indiana placed eighth nationwide, the same as last year. The Hoosier State tied for eighth with Arizona, which slid a spot from last year.
In the executive survey about business climate, Indiana tied for ninth nationally with Arizona and Virginia.
Published by Atlanta-based corporate expansion specialist Conway Data, Site Selection Magazine has been published for 72 years and reaches 41,000 subscribers in corporate America and the commercial real estate world.
