Indiana University covered up the truth — at least, that’s the message you'll see if you're driving west on the Ind. 45/46 Bypass.

On Monday, Nov. 10, free speech watchdog organization the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) launched a “pressure campaign” against IU on its home turf. The electronic billboard, located on the west side of the Bypass off Kinser Pike, is only the beginning, FIRE said.

“The current billboards will remain up, and we’ve already secured additional placements with more pointed messaging in even more prominent, high-traffic locations,” Katie Stalcup, communications campaign manager for FIRE, said in a written statement. “FIRE’s message will only grow louder.”

First amendment group hopes to increase public pressure on Indiana University with billboard campaign

FIRE has been a vocal critic of IU in recent years for its handling of various First Amendment conflicts. In September, FIRE dubbed IU the single worst public university in the country for free speech in its annual campus rankings.
