The University of Evansville announced to its campus community on Tuesday that 13 student-athletes have tested positive for COVID-19.
It received notification the student-athletes had attended an off-campus, non-university sanctioned social event for the Fourth of July. Some of them had returned to campus as part of a gradual, phased approach and were granted access to facilities for voluntary workouts starting on June 22.
UE has since suspended voluntary workouts for all-student athletes. It also will not release the names of those who tested positive or the sports they play to protect the students' privacy.

Contact tracing is ongoing through the Vanderburgh County Health Department, and all identified individuals will follow a mandated 14-day self-isolation period.
The university said it had no further comment at this time. It's unknown exactly how many of UE's 244 student-athletes had returned to campus, but the great majority of them have not.
This news came the same day Vanderburgh County set a new single-day record for COVID-19 cases by recording 57 new cases on Tuesday, according to the Indiana State Department of Health's statewide dashboard of cases.
