MUNCIE — In a unanimous vote, Muncie City Council on Monday night joined Mayor Dennis Tyler in opposing a proposed amendment to the Indiana Constitution that would ban same-sex marriage.

“I want it to be known nationally that Muncie is a city of everyone,” the resolution’s sponsor, council member Doug Marshall, said before the 9-0 vote to issue the city’s “position statement on a state constitutional amendment permanently defining marriage.”

The resolution expresses opposition to House Joint Resolution 3, and says that Muncie “is a community that prides itself on diversity, equality and the welcoming of all citizens.”
