Gov. Mike Pence brought his agenda of increasing vocational programs and using tax cuts as job creation tool to an economic development roundtable here Friday.

Speaking to a room of local business leaders and elected officials at Subaru of Indiana Automotive Pence said his plan to reduce personal income tax by 10 percent is aimed at growing business. His budget proposal is for an overall 1.4 percent increase in spending in 2014 and 2015.

“I think it is funding our priorities, protecting our strong balance sheet but allowing individuals, just as often small biz owners, to keep more of their earnings to reinvest,” he said. “It is going to be a way we can jump start our economy.”

Pence praised Tippecanoe County and its two cities for their ability to attract business and work with Purdue University. In return he heard how connecting schools with business and loosening regulation could lead to more growth.
