Three bills related to child welfare passed through committees today at the Indiana General Assembly.
The bills, House Bill 1142 and Senate Bill 107 and Senate Bill 572, passed unanimously through the House Committee on Family Children and Human Affairs and the Senate Judiciary Committee, respectively.
HB 1142 concerns the hiring of 156 new employees for the Indiana Department of Child Services by Jan. 1, 2014, according to the bill. These jobs include 50 additional intake specialists, 10 additional intake specialist supervisors, 80 additional family case managers and 16 additional family case manager supervisors.
Also a part of HB 1142 are further instructions on handling calls of abuse or neglect made to the DCS centralized call center. If HB 1142 passes, calls placed to the call center will be assigned to the local office in the county where the child lives.
