MUNCIE — Students started taking ISTEP with the state's new vendor on Monday, so some local teachers were surprised when they recognized questions.

There may be a new company in charge, but students in Indiana are still facing the same test.

The state owns the ISTEP questions, so this year's test is pulling from the same pool as last year, said Indiana Department of Education spokesperson Samantha Hart.

This is nothing new. Hart said items are typically added to the question pool over time, and the IDOE reviews the tests every year to determine whether or not a question should be removed.

An entirely new pool of questions was created for 2015 to align ISTEP with new state standards. If the state stays with ISTEP, Hart said the same questions will be used next year.

But this wasn't necessarily communicated to teachers.
