A company is looking at Warrick County, Indiana, for a data center build, and they'll be in town Monday to discuss it with the Area Plan Commission.
Officials with Sourecolo will attend the Warrick County APC meeting at 6 p.m. on Dec. 8 at the courthouse in Boonville to give an informational presentation on data centers.
The company is based in Lehi, Utah, according to its website. The Courier & Press left a message with company officials seeking comment.
"We simplify and improve the procurement process of data centers, colocation and other technology services for both buyers and sellers," the company's LinkedIn bio states.
APC Executive Director Molly Barnhill told members of the board of zoning appeals that the presentation Monday will not be on a specific project, but to give general information on data centers.
There will be a question-and-answer session where a microphone will be taken around the room, Barnhill said.
A "Just Say No to Data Centers" event on Facebook already has nearly 80 people interested in attending Monday's meeting.
Barnhill said there are no current application for a data center, but the company does have a size estimate in mind.
The company has also approached CenterPoint Energy to see if the utility can generate enough energy, Barnhill said. The Courier & Press has reached out to CenterPoint to inquire about potential conversations with Sourcecolo.
A CenterPoint spokesman said the company is aware a consultant "has been invited to speak at the Warrick County Area Plan Commission to offer education."
There was no confirmation or denial that the utility has spoken about a data center development in Warrick County in its official statement.
"We have regular discussions with community leaders, economic development organizations and current or prospective customers about potential gas and electric needs in the region. These conversations are part of CenterPoint’s standard economic development and planning work," CenterPoint stated. "The company remains focused on supporting growth for southwestern Indiana as it can bring new jobs and tax base which are benefits to the communities we serve. We will continue to work with local, and state economic development organizations and potential customers interested in our region."
