Muncie— Enrollment in Ivy Tech Community College’s East Central region dropped 15 percent, from 8,895 to 7,558, between September of 2011 and September of this year.
Of the three main campuses in the region (Anderson, Marion and Muncie), enrollment at Muncie dropped the most, a whopping 19 percent, from 4,913 to 3,986.
Statewide, Ivy Tech enrollment fell 7 percent, from 110,663 to 102,887.
But college officials aren’t viewing the drop as the sky falling or as a crisis. For starters, “Some students have gotten jobs,” regional vice chancellor of student affairs Mary Lewellen said.
