SOUTH BEND — A recent study ranked South Bend as the third most lucrative place in the nation for renting out homes on nights of college football games.

In South Bend, home of University of Notre Dame football, a home can be rented out for an average of $1,293 on the night of a game, according to the study by NerdWallet, which used 2016 data from the vacation rental website HomeAway.com.

South Bend was bested by Ann Arbor, Mich. — home of the University of Michigan — where a home can be rented out for an average of $1,665 on game day, and Tuscaloosa, Ala., where the average rate is $1,328 on a University of Alabama game day.
