FISHERS — Local residents now have another nearby option to take in major music acts and sporting events.
The Fishers Event Center, a 7,500-seat venue billed as the region’s largest mid-size event center, is set to open later this month. It will host the Turnpike Troubadors for its maiden concert.
The Troubadours, an Oklahoma-based country band, has gained notoriety with their most recent album, “A Cat in the Rain.” Released in 2023, it peaked at No. 9 on the U.S. country charts.
They are also responsible for songs such as “Good Lord Lorrie,” “Diamonds and Gasoline,” and “Long Hot Summer Day.” The latter had more than 81 million plays on Spotify as of Friday.
The Troubadours concert will kick off a star-studded lineup of performances, including Blake Shelton, Alabama, Lindsey Sterling and comedian Tom Segura.
The Fishers Event Center will also serve as the home for the Indy Fuel, Indianapolis’ professional hockey team, which has been housed at the Indiana State Fairgrounds for a number of years.
The Fuel’s move to the event center, announced in 2022, was part of a series of economic development projects completed at an estimated cost of $1 billion, according to a press release.
Before moving to the center, the Fuel practiced at a facility in Fishers. The center will also host the Indy Ignite, a newly-formed professional volleyball team, which will begin its season on Jan. 11 against the Orlando Valkyries.
The center will be overseen by the City of Fishers, but the day-to-day operations will be managed by Mitch List, who recently moved to the area from Tennessee.
List said the new venue will provide an additional choice for people in the surrounding area to experience musical and sports-related entertainment.
He also said the possibility exists for expanding the center’s uses to include weddings and other private events.
