Monday’s meeting of the Memorial Park Board was brief and adjourned in just under 30 minutes. Park board member Terrill McCall was absent, as was park superintendent Casey Brumley.

Park board member Levi Simmons told those present that the park’s water infrastructure plans had been submitted for Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) 2.0 consideration. The program is made possible through the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC).

READI 2.0 projects are mostly designed to focus on population growth and quality of life investments. A total of $500 million in grant funds will be available statewide. According to the IEDC, match requirements expect that “there is a one-to-one public match and a three-to-one private/philanthropic match requirement,” which totals a 4:1 match.

The project the park submitted for consideration would involve completely redoing the park’s water system on the north side at a cost of about $1 million dollars.

Regional READI proposals are due to the IDEC in February 2024.
