FORT WAYNE – Even as their union tries to hammer out a new contract under a cloud of uncertainty, some Navistar International Corp. workers already are severing ties with the company.

A three-year pact with United Auto Workers Local 2911 expired at 12:01 a.m. Friday. Although it is not uncommon for organized labor to work without an agreement, the pending pullout by the Warrenville, Ill., company has members all the more frustrated.
