West Lafayette City Council likely will approve an ordinance Monday to fund the city’s portion of the agreement reached with Amtrakto continue passenger rail service in Indiana.

The ordinance calls for $200,000 from the city’s Economic Development Income Tax funds to finance the city’s portion of the service.

Economic Development Director Chandler Poole was asked to discuss the ramifications of the appropriations to the economic development efforts at Monday’s council meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 609 W. Navajo St.

The state is picking up half of the $2.7 million needed to continue the rail. The cities and counties along the rest of the route from Indianapolis to Chicago are picking up the remainder.
