State Rep. Jeff Ellington’s bill to help local community corrections programs purchase needed equipment has passed the House.

House Bill 1125 would allow the county to use cumulative capital improvement funds to help local community corrections programs buy or lease electronic monitoring equipment. This includes ankle bracelets or portable breathalyzers.

Ellington (R-Bloomington) said this bill would help communities with jail overcrowding by allowing offenders to work while being monitored.
