BLOOMINGTON - Carlisle Industrial Brake & Friction announced today the closure of its Logansport facility.

The company, based in Bloomington, manufactures brake and friction products for off-highway equipment and on-highway vehicles. The closure will result in the loss of about 118 jobs. All other CIBF facilities will continue production.

Chris Koch, CIBF president, commented, "Adverse economic conditions in 2009 have resulted in a significant decline in the demand for products manufactured by our Logansport facility and led to this difficult decision. After an extensive review we have determined to cease the manufacture of a number of existing products and move production of the remaining products to other CIBF locations. This transition will begin immediately and the majority of the production operations will cease by the end of December, 2009. Some operations may continue longer to meet customer commitments but are anticipated to end by the end of March, 2010. Decisions of this magnitude that affect our employees, their families, and, inevitably, the entire community are always difficult.

"We intend to help our employees transition to other opportunities by offering various transition services," Koch added. "Salaried employees will be offered severance packages and outplacement assistance. The company will work closely with union officials to determine severance packages for hourly workers."
