True or false: Ethanol production is keeping the price of gasoline down by 40 cents a gallon.

False, according to Wally Tyner, an agricultural economist at Purdue University.

An analysis published in April by the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development at Iowa State University suggests the growth in ethanol production has caused retail gasoline prices in the Midwest to be 40 cents a gallon lower than would otherwise have been the case.
