The number of Hoosier college students applying for financial aid rose dramatically this year, forcing the state to decrease the amount of money that students can receive to help pay for their educations.

The State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana lowered the caps on the amount of money it will distribute to individual students for their college education by 31 percent over last year.
