St. Joseph County smoke-free since 2006

Maury Cocquyt knew he had two options after the St. Joseph County smoking ordinance passed a few years ago: allow smoking but restrict the age of patrons coming into Maury's Pat's Pub, or go nonsmoking.

Cocquyt chose the first option, deciding that keeping smoking would serve more of his clientele.

But months later, the owner realized his choice backfired.
