State official details steps for high-speed rail in Fort Wayne

The state supports high-speed rail through Fort Wayne, but several difficult hurdles remain before that prospect can become a reality, Indiana's transportation director said Thursday.

Michael Reed, Indiana Department of Transportation commissioner, told a few hundred supporters of high-speed rail for northeast Indiana the state will apply today for a $49 million federal environmental and engineering study. The state expects to learn whether it is approved by December. The study would take two years to conduct.
