Toyota sales down nearly 30 percent

TORRANCE, Calif. - Toyota Motor Sales reported September sales down 29.5 pecent form last September, on a daily selling rate basis. Calendar year-to-date sales were down 10.4 percent for the same period last year.

The Toyota division posted a 28.9 percent decrease from last September while Lexus reported a decrease of 33.4 percent from the year-ago month.

Tundra pickup sales were down 59 percent compared to last September, and down 20.4 percent compared to the last calendar year.

Toyota Highlander and hybrid Highlander SUV sales were down 27 percent from last September, and down 10.2 percent for the calendar year.

The Gibson County-made Sienna minivan sales were up for the month, but down for the year, according to the report. Sienna sales were up 1.9 percent for the month and down 10.4 percent for the year.

The Sequoia full-size SUV manufactured in Gibson County posted a 27.4 pecent sales increase for the month and a 36.9 percent increase for the calendar year.
