Inflation in grocery prices is going to take a bite out of Thanksgiving dinner this year.

Based on an annual survey conducted by the Indiana Farm Bureau, the cost for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner – including turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and other items – is up 12% compared to last year.

According to the Farm Bureau, that translates into an average price per person of about $5.36 in Indiana, about 3 cents more than the national average.

“There is no question that this has been a tough year,” Isabella Chism, second vice president of the Farm Bureau, said in a release. “Coming off the heels of the pandemic, widespread supply chain issues are pushing prices higher and the economy is stretched.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall inflation has increased by 6.2% over the past 12 months, and the price of food consumed at home has increased by 5.4%.
