MUNCIE — Major change is coming to the Muncie Mall.
Hull Property Group of Augusta, Georgia — which bought the mall in January 2024 — has announced plans to demolish more than 250,000 square feet of the mall, which opened in 1970.
To be demolished are the former sites of what for decades were two of the mall's anchor stores: JCPenney and Sears. The former location of a movie theater on the mall's west side is also to be demolished.
John Mulherin, a Hull Property Group vice president, made the announcement in an interview posted online with Ryan Kramer, a Muncie real estate agent.
"We found that the best path forward, the brightest if you will for the mall, is going to be a demolition," Mulherin told Kramer of Kramer Real Estate Group. "We're going to demolish about 255,000 square feet of the mall, primarily the JCPenney, the Sears and the old movie theater."'
