RICHMOND, Ind. — It hasn't been easy being a downtown business owner recently.

Construction along U.S. 27 and U.S. 40 disrupted customer traffic for two-plus years, a time during which some of the area's longtime family-owned shops closed.

But once the crews finished their work last spring, life began to return to storefronts along East Main Street again.

Then came the novel coronavirus pandemic, forcing most to close their doors and face an uncertain future.

Now, a new lifeline is available to those businesses and others in the city's central area.
