ANDERSON — The Anderson Community School Corporation  failed to make adequate yearly progress, or AYP, for 2010.

AYP is a federal testing system to measures students’ comprehension of English, Language Arts and Math.

With just five schools making AYP in the district, ACS failed as a whole, curriculum director Janet Burrows said Tuesday.

The final AYP numbers won’t be released for the next three to four weeks, Burrows said, because school districts have the right to appeal preliminary AYP results.

ACS is currently reviewing its own results, comparing the AYP report against student performance, she said.

Burrows said the district’s pass/fail report was not released in 2009 because the timing of the test was changed.

Accordingly, Burrows compared the 2010 results against 2008 results in a presentation before the school board Tuesday.

In 2010, the district failed to make AYP because it scored 28 out of 29 categories measured.

In 2008, the district did make AYP, even though only four schools made the grade.

The five schools that passed AYP for the 2010 results period were Erskine, Valley Grove, Edgewood, Forest Hills and Killbuck elementary schools.
