Defense contractors working on Crane-related projects appear to have avoided major damage from the ongoing federal government shutdown.

“We didn’t get any notification of anything we needed to change,” said Doug McDaniel, president of Bloomington-based Scientia LLC. “We’re still working pretty feverishly.”

Scientia, in fact, is trying to finish a piece of software before an approaching deadline, McDaniel said. But the company did run into one shutdown-related hiccup.

Late last week, McDaniel attempted to email a defense security service representative with a question. He found out that representative had been furloughed.

The representative was back on the job this week, though. McDaniel spoke with him after the U.S. Department of Defense called many of its civilian employees to return to work.
