Franciscan Alliance laid off 275 employees Wednesday at 11 hospitals and health facilities in Indiana, including three local hospitals, officials announced.
Locally, 39 employees at St. Elizabeth East, St. Elizabeth Central and St. Elizabeth Health in Crawfordsville were notified.
The length of the layoff is undetermined.
“We never know whether they will be hired back if something changed,” said Terry Wilson, president and CEO of Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health. “They are not being told that their layoff is temporary. They are being given assistance through an out placement firm to find employment.”
The three hospitals, which constitute Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health or the western region of Franciscan Alliance, have about 2,700 employees. The layoffs constitute 1.4 percent of that total.
