Large kindergarten and first-grade classes at Northern Wells Community Schools have forced the board to recall two additional teachers who were subject to a recent Reduction in Force.

“Today was the first day of school and it got off to a great start, other than the large class sizes in kindergarten and first grade,” (superintendent Dr. Scott) Mills said. “But, the good news is we were able to bring back two teachers who we had RIF’d to fill the need so we can reduce those class sizes to where they need to be.”

Mills said stimulus money would likely be used to offset the cost to the General Fund, but he was unsure how much stimulus fund money would be made available.
