TERRE HAUTE — The Vigo County School Corp. gained a few students in enrollment Friday, bringing final numbers to 15,787, down 201 students this year over last year, said Ray Azar, director of student services.

That’s nearly a 1.3 percent decline.

State funding is based largely on enrollment, and Friday was the official enrollment count date that will be used by the state for funding formula purposes.

Azar said that a few additional students enrolled Friday. On the official count day, “Students are allowed to enroll at any point  that day,” he said.

The district typically receives between $5,000 and $6,000 per student, based on the funding formula. It receives additional funding for vocational education and special education enrollments.
