ANDERSON — Greenville Technology Inc. Executive Vice President William LaFramboise was dubious when a broker suggested Anderson as the possible location for a new Indiana production facility.

The company was looking at a number of other locations, including Richmond, when Anderson came up.

“My initial reaction was I think it’s just a little bit outside of our range, a little bit too far from Greenville (Ohio),” LaFramboise said Tuesday.

But he agreed to take a look.

After scanning maps, taking the drive and meeting with Anderson’s economic development team, he went from skeptical to sold in short order.

Access to Interstate 69 and a fast delivery route to Greensburg were key; an available and skilled work force was critical. The facilities at the Flagship Enterprise Center were exactly what the company needed.

“The cooperativeness of the city government to pave the way, remove impediments and cut the red tape was evident from the day we met the mayor and his staff, and that’s probably the intangible that pushed us over the top,” LaFramboise said.

Anderson Interim Economic Development Director Greg Winkler said the city had one day to prepare for GTI’s visit. Yet the game plan was simple: Have every department head and appropriate economic development person available to answer every and any possible question that GTI executives might pose.

He said city staff worked late nights and weekends to make the deal happen.

“They did that because they wanted to win,” Winkler said.
