All of the private and public partners involved in the construction of Interstate 69 Section 5 have committed to complete the project and have the road open by Oct. 31, 2017.

“The road will be built,” Jim Stark, director of public-private partnership for the Indiana Finance Authority, told members of the Bloomington/Monroe County Metropolitan Planning Organization Policy Committee Friday afternoon. “We understand there have been some delays and the schedule is behind.”

Stark, who said all entities involved — including contractor Isolux Corsan, the Indiana Department of Transportation, I-69 Development Partners and the IFA — agreed to have the road open by the end of next October in a meeting Thursday.

He added that the partners know the reality of the situation.

“Meeting that target will not be easy,” Stark said.

The new target is the most recent in a string of delays for a project that originally was supposed to be completed this month.
