MUNCIE — Does Muncie Community Schools really need to take out a $10 million bond for repairs and renovations?
MCS officials argue that not only is it needed, but that it must be done as soon as possible.
About $1.9 million has been earmarked for Central High School, with some of those renovations happening immediately to get the newly merged building ready for the incoming Southside students this fall.
And while many would agree that some of these things are necessary – wall dividers for some of the classrooms ($20,000) and some additional lockers ($100,000) in the hallways and the gym ($50,000) – others do not appear to be as pressing.
They aren’t, according to Muncie Community Schools Supt. Tim Heller.
“We do not need to spend $1.9 million to open that school this fall,” he said Wednesday.
