After Casey's incident, Wayne County to offer hepatitis A shots on Thursday

The department will offer free vaccinations for the communicable disease on Thursday, July 19 from 3 to 6 p.m. at its 201 E. Main St. building.

The vaccinations, supplied by the Indiana State Department of Health, are being offered free of charge, after the county health department learned of an employee at Casey's General Store in Centerville who worked while infected with the virus.

While infection due to contaminated food is rare, vaccinations are recommended for anyone who consumed food or beverages prepared on-site at Casey's, 704 E. Main St., Centerville, on or between July 5 and July 12.

People who bought pre-packaged items or fountain drinks not prepared by staff members of Casey's General Store are not considered at-risk to exposure, Mark Linderman, environmental health supervisor for the Wayne County Health Department, said Monday.
