Casino Aztar saw its revenues decline last month, though it still managed to do better than its competitors.
Aztar earned $9.5 million in revenue in April, down 1.9 percent as compared with the same period last year.
The figures come from the Indiana Gaming Commission’s April revenue report, which was released on Wednesday.
The report details how many people visited each of Indiana’s casinos and how much they wagered; and how much each casino earned in revenue and paid in taxes.
Aztar’s two main competitors are the French Lick Casino in French Lick and Harrah’s Metropolis in Metropolis, Ill.
French Lick earned $6.7 million in revenue last month, down 3.2 percent from a year ago.
Metropolis earned $7.4 million, down 11.7 percent year-over-year.
Casino gaming revenue comes from the money that patrons wager on electronic and table games. Most of the money wagered is paid back out in winnings, but casinos keep some of it as revenue.
Regarding admissions, Aztar, French Lick and Metropolis casinos all reported a drop last month as compared with a year earlier.
Aztar reported 87,968 visitors, down 6.7 percent. French Lick reported 73,224 visitors, down 0.7 percent. Metropolis reported 58,923 visitors, down 10.5 percent.
Aztar paid $3.1 million in admission and wagering taxes in April.
Ward Shaw, Aztar’s general manager, could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
