MUNCIE — Ball State University announced on Tuesday that its total enrollment this fall reached a record 22,513.
The freshman class also set records for under-represented populations (20 percent) and out-of-state students (18.6 percent).
Overall, the freshman class of 4,002 is Ball State's second-largest — three students shy of the record set in 1997.
Nearly 73 percent of incoming freshman earned a high school honors diploma (the Indiana average is 38 percent) and had a 3.5 grade-point average.
Total enrollment includes on campus, off campus, undergraduates and graduate students.
• On-campus enrollment is 16,825, almost the same as last fall when it reached 16,808, ending a four-year slide since 2011, when it stood at 18,241. This year's on-campus group includes 15,379 undergraduates and 1,446 graduate students.
