MUNCIE — Ball State University has confirmed it has submitted a bid to purchase one or more of the school buildings being marketed by Muncie Community Schools.
The deadline for Ball State and others to submit purchase offers for Northside Middle School, which remains open, and three elementary schools that were shut down earlier this year was 5 p.m. Monday.
The state-appointed emergency manager of the fiscally impaired school district, the school's spokesperson and the school board president are declining to provide information on any purchase offers.
MCS spokesperson Anny Pichardo referred questions to the emergency manager, whose spokesperson, Donna Petraits, referred questions back to Pichardo and Superintendent Steve Baule.
While the emergency manager has the authority to make the final decision, "we are waiting on a recommendation" from Baule and the school board, Petraits said.
School board President Debbie Feick said she didn't know of anyone other than Ball State who turned in a purchase offer.
