It's too bad that Gov. Mitch Daniels didn't take a closer look at Tippecanoe County's experiment with vote centers before he vetoed a bill that would have adopted the practice statewide.
"While this bill contains provisions that would make the act of voting more convenient," Daniels wrote to lawmakers, "it does not contain sufficient safeguards against fraud and abuse and removes long-standing bipartisan checks and balances in the conduct of elections."
An experiment with vote centers in three Indiana counties -- Wayne, Cass and Tippecanoe counties -- has been a success in saving taxpayers money and has been convenient for voters, many of whom have embraced the change, which is not an easy feat.
