LAFAYETTE — Former Purdue University President Martin Jischke testified at the Indiana statehouse Thursday to show his support of Senate Bill 1, which aims to build a better system for mental health services for Hoosiers.
SB1 would allocate $30 million over the span of two years to help establish new certified community behavioral health clinics across the state, provide crisis response services, including mobile crisis teams, and crisis receiving and stabilization services.
The bill also aims to fund the 988 mental health crisis lifelines.
The bill was authored by State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette), State Sen. Ed Charbonneau (R-Valparaiso), and State Sen. Michael Crider (R-Greenfield).
"I invited President Jischke to testify because I have always found him to be a leading mental health advocate throughout my time in the Indiana Senate," Alting said.
