MISHAWAKA — Virtually everything was on the table.
On the heels of a failed $28 million voter referendum, Mishawaka Superintendent Terry Barker provided the school board this evening a comprehensive run down of potential money-saving ideas.
“This isn’t really a presentation of what will be or should be,” Barker said, “It’s a presentation of options.”
Of perhaps the most controversial, a merger with a neighboring school district, Barker said it is a “slim possibility.
The process, if another district were even interested, would be lengthy and tedious, Barker said. And, it wouldn’t wipe out Mishawaka schools’ debt.
What seems to be a more likely scenario is some combination of cuts to facilities, staffing and programming.
