MUNCIE — Muncie Community Schools will need to come up with about $2 million to run the buses for the 2014-15 school year.
That was the estimate offered by MCS Chief Financial Officer Mark Burkhart during Tuesday’s regular board meeting, just four days after the district’s request for a waiver to end busing was denied by the Indiana State Department of Education.
A large crowd greeted the board for its first meeting of the year, where Tony Costello presided as the new board president. Before the regular meeting, board members were elected to posts for 2014 — new officers are elected each year — and Beverly Kelley was sworn in for her second term on the board.
