MUNCIE — Voters have put the brakes on buses for Muncie Community Schools.
The majority of voters Tuesday voted against a referendum which would have increased property taxes in order to keep the school buses running after this school year.
“I am absolutely devastated,” said MCS Board member Debbie Feick. “Our adversaries have stated all day long that transportationwill continue. Well, I am very sad to say it won’t.”
Feick was gathered with about 200 other supporters of the referendum - other board members, bus drivers, parents, children, district administrators - Tuesday night at The Regency.
Wearing “vote yes” shirts, they embraced and cried as the final results came in.
