SOUTH BEND -- When it comes to the South Bend school board's support of a theoretical statewide switch to Central Time, Bill Sniadecki called it a "no-brainer."
"If we save one life ... it's worth it," he said. "We've had several accidents in this town because of darkness."
The board voted this week -- with five members in favor and two abstaining -- to join the Central Time Coalition, a growing group of school districts and others in Indiana that believe a time-zone switch -- which would equate to fewer dark mornings -- would increase safety for kids.
