DYER | Dyer officials expect state legislators and representatives from nearly a dozen Lake County communities to participate in a discussion next week about sharing resources.
The meeting, which is open to the public, is scheduled for 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dyer Plum Creek Center, a renovated water treatment building that can be accessed from the parking lot behind Dyer Town Hall.
Speakers will include Kenneth R. Murray of Management Partners, Inc., Tom Bredeweg, of the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns, and Randy Strasser, mayor of Delphi.
Strasser's city recently created a fire territory, and Murray's company has worked nationally to help towns consolidate services, Dyer Town Manager Joe Neeb said.
The meeting is described as an evening of learning and discussion on how leaders can work together in providing quality services at affordable prices to citizens.
Griffith, Cedar Lake, Highland, Lowell, Merrillville, Munster, St. John, Schererville, Dyer, Winfield and Schneider, as well as local state legislators were invited to the meeting.
Neeb said although some communities work together on some level, it is important to discuss other opportunities for partnership in this economy.
Neeb and Schererville Town Manager Bob Volkmann recently told The Times they are interested in partnerships and might explore the idea of creating a fire territory.
