Allen County government has shaved $1.5 million from its budget by cutting 37 positions, including 15 people laid off.
Counties across the state are scaling back their staffs, considering user fees, raising income taxes and consolidating services all in effort to address budget shortfalls next year. A state law went into effect last July calling for property tax caps to take effect in 2010, and officials expect less income tax revenue because of the failing economy.
