ANDERSON - When Nestlé came to Anderson last year, it brought jobs and a big brown bunny. Now Nestlé Corp. has brought notoriety to the city.
On Wednesday, a story appeared on the New York Times Web site with the headline "Piecemeal Recovery Fills Voice in a Former G.M. Town." Written by Mary M. Chapman, the piece addresses the impact of General Motors Corp.'s collapse on Anderson and its attempt to rebuild, including the expansion of Hoosier Park and the Nestlé project.
Chapman spoke to Michael J. Hicks of Ball State University, car dealer Mark Harison, Chuck Staley of the Flagship Enterprise Center, Anderson resident Dan Ferree and Paul Bulcke of Nestlé.
The piece also includes a gallery of 11 photographs taken by Richard Perry, including views of the Paramount Theatre Centre, UAW Local 663 headquarters and Hoosier Park.
Anderson Economic Development Director Linda Dawson said the city had received two calls as of 3 p.m. Thursday from businesses that had read the New York Times article and became interested in the city.
Developers from Boston and New York were interested in viewing available properties.
