Continental Automotive Systems will eliminate 42 jobs at its Elkhart plant at the end of September as it works toward a complete shutdown of the facility next year.
The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice with the state in early August.
Continental acquired the former Siemens VDO Automotive Corp. business in December 2007.
Some workers were laid off in a partial closing in 2008, and adverse business conditions led the company to decide on a complete shutdown of the Elkhart electrical equipment manufacturing operation to be completed by spring 2010.
The additional layoffs will be completed in phases, with a total of 93 employees affected this year and next. A few of the positions will be transferred to other Continental locations, the company's WARN Act notice said.
