A Cummins Inc. division deal with a former Arvin plant has transferred some much needed business to Columbus.
EMCON Technologies's Gladstone Plant, a former Arvin operation, will assemble diesel particulate filters for Cummins Emissions Solutions beginning late this year. Cummins will use filters to meet upcoming emissions standards.
As a result, CES by the end of March will shut down its Wautoma Plant in Wisconsin, which employs about 180.
EMCON, based in Troy, Mich., and Columbus Economic Development Board could not be reached to say how the new contract would affect employment at the Gladstone Plant.
"We are very excited about the potential created by this strategic partnership," CES President Srikanth Padmanabhan said in a press release.
"The result of this winning combination will be state-of-the-art after-treatment products and systems that our customers' demand for today's clean-running diesel engines."
Steve Scgalski, senior vice president and chief operating officer of EMCON said, "We are highly confident that the combined capabilities of CES and EMCON will enhance our joint ability to meet the increasingly stringent emissions demands of the global commercial vehicles market."
