Delaware County school finances

The financial picture has gotten worse for some schools in Delaware County.

After the General Assembly cut how much it will spend on special aid to the most hard-hit schools in the state, some, including Muncie Community Schools, will have to cut even more from their budgets than originally expected.

Muncie, Wes-Del, Liberty-Perry and Yorktown schools all are facing deeper cuts.

Here's a look at how property tax caps, combined with the latest state funding formula, are affecting local schools.

    *Cowan is the one corporation in the county still projected to have more money ($126,046) to spend over the next two years. All other school systems are looking at losses and budget cuts.

    MUNCIE -- Muncie Community Schools' dark hole is getting deeper -- about $1 million deeper.

    The corporation, already facing huge budget cuts, will have to cut even more than expected.

    In the next two years, Muncie schools will have to cut more than $9.8 million from its budget, up from the $8.8 million projected earlier.
