WASHINGTON -- A medical center that serves underinsured and uninsured Elkhart residents is getting a financial boost from President Barack Obama's economic stimulus package.
Heart City Health Center will receive $187,023 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The clinic will be able to hire two "medical service providers" to handle increasing demand, according to a press release by Congressman Joe Donnelly.
Heart City is one of 19 community health centers across the state that will receive a total of $5 million to expand health care services.
The clinics can use the money to add new providers, expand hours of operation or increase clinic services.
"I was pleased to find out that Heart City Health Center will receive funding to help continue offering critical medical services to those families most severely impacted by the current economy," Donnelly said in the release. "Providing quality health care is especially important during these tough economic times when many folks are finding it more difficult to pay for medical care."
